The Ministry of Labour & Employment has taken the present shape and status through different changes and development since independence. Considering the importance of employment for socio-economic development and poverty alleviation, the present government divided the Ministry of Labour & Manpower and created the present Ministry of Labour & Employment in December 2001.
The objective of the Ministry of Labour & Employment is to alleviate poverty through creating employment opportunities for the poor, unemployed and unskilled labour force of the country.
The functions of the Ministry of Labour & Employment are implemented through different activities such as converting unskilled labour into semi-skilled and skilled labour through imparting technical training, creating congenial environment between employee and the employer to increase the production of factories and industries and ensuring the welfare of the labour through formulating and implementing labour laws, labour wages etc.
